POPULAR actress Nagma opened up about her faith and mission in her life for the first time to the media in an exclusive interview with The Christian Messenger . . . . in 2006, I became ill. I had a viral fever that the doctors weren’t able to diagnose. I had high temperature and was hospitalized. That’s when a Punjabi guy in my fraternity who was married to a Christian woman visited me and gave a CD. It contained a sermon titled ‘Freedom From Fear’ by Brother Johnson, an evangelist in Goa. For the next six months I kept listening to the CD. Like the Bible says: ‘Faith comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of God.’ After six months, I told myself: ‘Now, I want to read the Word.’ I began with the New Testament. I told God: ‘I am going to read your Word. Help me and be my teacher.’

My name is Inder Mohan Singh. I had a foot-and-a-half long beard, had long hair and tied a turban till about 1996. I was born into a Sikh family of very devout and religious people, made up mostly of physicians and Army officers. I was the youngest, fattest and most spoiled of four children, three male and a female! My two older brothers and eldest sister had not studied in private schools (called public schools in India!) but my father, a retired Army officer who had spent 42 months in Italy and Egypt during the Second World War, was determined that I be educated in an English-medium school . . . . We used to be taken to the Sikh temple regularly and we read the Sikh scriptures off and on (a copy of which was kept ritualistically ‘adorned’ at our home)!

No matter how fulfilling life becomes, there are always certain regrets when one looks back. My deepest sense of loss involves my father. So much has happened since his death. I often wonder what it would be like to share it all with him, and what his reaction would be. We never shared anything in our lives. Because of vows he had taken before I was born, not once did he ever speak to me or pay me the slightest heed. Just two words from him would have made me unspeakably happy. How I wanted to hear him say, "Rabi. Son." Just once. But he never did.

I come from a very poor family who could not afford my education beyond the tenth standard. I attained my entire education through self-study, without coaching, tuition or correspondence courses. I visited the university only to sit in the examinations . . . . I came up from an untouchable family of India where religion has denied us a humane living for centuries. Caste system in India fixes social hierarchy. It perpetuates the law of inequality based on the tenet of reincarnation. The religious belief is that we are born into a low caste to pay for the sins of our past lives. We are told, “we have no relationship with God”. We are still denied access to certain Hindu temples . . . . They worship the animals but hate the human beings. For centuries we were told that we could not worship god, as we do not belong to Him.

My father died when I was four years as he was witch-crafted by a witch man that was paid by another family in order to kill my family. My mother and grandparents tried every thing to get him cured. They offered the animal sacrifice in a graveyard in the midnight hour with the help of another witch doctor. They took him to mental hospitals and Hindu temples. They finally took him to a big temple where millions of Hindus go to shave their heads and give hair offering to the god of seven hills.

He told me to stop what I was doing, stop following Christ but I refused. When he saw that I was adamant with my decision, he asked me to leave the house.

For decades, a phenomenon has been recurring in the Muslim world. Men and women – without any knowledge of the Gospel and without any contact with Christians – have been forever transformed after experiencing dreams and visions of Jesus Christ. Reports of these supernatural occurrences often come from “closed countries” where preaching the Gospel is forbidden and where converting to Christianity can invoke the death sentence. A common denominator appears to be that the dreams come to those who are seeking to know and please God. We decided to capture some of these stories and use them as a witnessing tool to Muslims all over the world.

When Esther Gulshan Fatima, a devout Pakistani Muslim girl, was six months old, typhoid left her a cripple. Her loving father took her from Pakistan to England to find a cure, but the only hope the British specialist could offer was prayer. Gulshan and her father made a pilgrimage to Mecca and begged Allah for healing . . . . As Gulshan began reading the Quran, her interest in Jesus grew, until one amazing night Jesus appeared to her in her bedroom in a blaze of light. Jesus restored her crippled arm and leg and taught her 'The Lords Prayer'. Jesus told her to go to his people now and tell them what he had done. Since that time, and to this day, Esther Gulshan Fatima has been a joyous, obedient disciple of Christ. Gulshan Esther now lives in Oxford, England. The Torn Veil has sold over 200,000 copies.

On December 24, 1983, Brother Sadhu had a supernatural visitation from the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus then asked Sundar Selvaraj, "Will you continue the ministry of Sadhu Sundar Singh?" Without any hesitation, Selvaraj answered "Yes Lord!" Smiling, the Lord said, "Do not reply hastily! This is a very difficult ministry with lots of suffering. You may have to suffer loneliness, isolation, hunger, pain and persecutions. Now tell Me. Will you accept this ministry?" Humbly kneeling before the Lord Jesus, Selvaraj answered, "Yes Lord. I will continue Sadhu Sundar Singh's ministry." Pleased with that answer, the Lord Jesus came towards Selvaraj and placed a mantle. Laying on his hands upon him the Lord Jesus then said, "I am ordaining you as an apostle to Tibet. Go and evangelize Tibet and her people. From today you shall be called Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj."
