April 7: For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him? Deuteronomy 4:7.

Israel has a remarkable status among all the nations of the earth – in that it is chosen by God to be His own. In these days, God has accorded that status to all those who believe in His Son Jesus Christ.

James 4:8 says: ‘Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.’ He is near to those who call upon His name.

What is the reason you call upon Him today? Do you want deliverance? Are you in need of a financial breakthrough? Have you been praying for a special anointing? What’s your need? Call upon His name. John 20:31 says by believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, we might have life in His name. That’s a great privilege.

Today's Bible reading: Numbers 6-8, Psalm 110, Acts 6.

Prayer point: Pray for Vani and Veena, conjoined twins aged five years and five months. They are joined at the head. They have separate brains but have one common blood vessel. Neurosurgeon Dr Keith Yu-Ching Goh from Singapore, who will operate on them in August this year, has given them only a 60% chance of survival. There’s a 30% chance of death or disability post-surgery, he has warned. Pray for the successful conduct of the operation. | Read yesterday's devotional |
