when i was little my grandparents lived with us. i loved having them around all the time and i remember my grandma coming to pick me up from school and we'd walk home together and until about 6/7, when my mom would come home, it would be just me my sister and my grandma. tracy would usually be playing with her toys or watching a recycled episode of a kid's show, and i would either be helping my grandma in the kitchen or sitting on a chair watching her.

Of the "conversations" i remember having with her, she'd always tell me about God's love and how Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and i should always love him because he loves me and died for me. whatever my little 5 year old mind could grasp of that, it did.

amidst those conversations she'd teach me old hymns she learned as a girl and loved. from her i learned "Jesus loves me", "Jesus loves the little Children", "Amazing Grace", and my favourite "What a friend we have in Jesus". I couldn't understand the words then, but recently i've begun to fully understand what those words mean and just how wonderful they are, and how important a message it was for my grandmother to pass it on to me.

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a priviledge to carry
Everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and tempations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Are we weak and heavy laden?
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour still our refuge;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
Thou wilt find a solace there.
